Gurnee continues its recovery after record flooding

The Des Plains river shattered its’ 1986 record for flooding, cresting at 12.1 feet after last week’s rain. Gurnee Mayor Kristina Kovarik told WLIP’s Lenny Palmer that despite all the water, the village’s emergency plan worked.

Kovarik says that Gurnee also benefited from the removal of certain buildings from known flood plains after earlier major flooding.
