Beach Park Man Arrested After Domestic Dispute, Subdued by K9 Danno

Beach Park, IL (WLIP)–A Beach Park man was taken into custody by Lake County Sheriff’s K9 Danno after allegedly hitting and choking a woman during a domestic dispute.

On August 31, 2024, around 6:45 p.m., sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a manufactured home in the 38700 block of North Sheridan Road, Beach Park, after a 911 caller reported that her boyfriend, Ruben Ruiz, 26, assaulted her.

The woman managed to exit the home, and deputies quickly established a perimeter around the residence.

Ruiz reportedly  attempted to escape through a window but retreated upon seeing the deputies.

When sheriff’s deputies and K9 Danno entered the home, Ruiz hid under a bed and refused to surrender, despite warnings that K9 Danno would be released.

After his continued refusal, K9 Danno was deployed and bit Ruiz on the arm, prompting him to surrender.

Ruiz was treated by paramedics for the dog bite and then transported to the Lake County Jail.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Ruiz with two counts of domestic battery and obstructing a peace officer.
