Bicyclist Injured After Crash
LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. (WLIP) — A 33-year-old bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries Saturday when he was struck by a car while crossing a road.
The collision occurred around noon at the intersection of West Rockland Road and the Des Plaines River Trail in unincorporated Libertyville, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said the Mundelein man was riding northbound on the recreational trail when he attempted to cross West Rockland Road.
A westbound Toyota Prius driven by a 39-year-old Gurnee man struck the cyclist, throwing him onto the vehicle’s windshield before he fell to the ground.
The bicyclist was rushed to a local hospital with critical injuries.
The Prius driver and a child passenger were unharmed, officials said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is investigating the incident.
No charges have been filed.
