Bicyclist Killed in Wadsworth Hit-and-Run; Suspected Driver Identified, Investigation Ongoing

Wadsworth, IL (WLIP)—A fatal hit-and-run crash in Wadsworth is under investigation by Lake County Sheriff’s investigators.

A bicyclist was killed late on Friday September 6 at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Dilleys Road.

The Lake County Sheriff’s department reports that the incident involved a GMC SUV striking a woman riding a bicycle, followed by a second collision with another vehicle.

The first driver allegedly fled the scene but the second driver is cooperating with authorities.

Preliminary reports indicate that the bicyclist was hit from behind by the GMC, which fled the scene with the bicycle lodged beneath it, later identified by a witness in Winthrop Harbor.

The GMC was found at the suspect’s residence, and the suspected driver, a 32-year-old man from Winthrop Harbor, is under investigation.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the victim, and the investigation is ongoing, with potential criminal charges pending.
