A bill introduced in the state legislature aims to prevent multiple DUIs in one night. The measure would require those suspected of driving under the influence to be detained instead of being released to a responsible party as current law allows.

State Rep Samantha Kerkman told WLIP’s Wake Up Kenosha that a recent streak of multiple DUI cases means the law needs to change. She says that she and other lawmakers meet with local officials to decide what to do.

A recent case in Kenosha County left a woman severely injured after a man who had already been charged with a DUI that night drove again and ran a red light, striking her vehicle. The man had been released into the custody of his mother.
