Water levels in Lake Michigan have reached a critical stage and Kenosha officials are working to avoid an emergency flooding situation. Lake levels are at their highest reported level right now and risen dramatically over the past three years.

That means a heavy rain event could overload the city’s water diversion system. 17th district Alderman David Bogdala told WLIP’s Wake Up Kenosha that officials want to invest 750-thousand dollars for a new pump.

Water levels are projected to decrease in the coming months, but not enough to alleviate the potential problems Kenosha could face with backups causing flooding issues.
