Deputies Foil School Threat; Weapons Seized
MUNDELEIN, Ill. (WLIP) — Lake County authorities seized two firearms and filed charges against a juvenile who threatened a school shooting at Fremont Middle School following swift action by law enforcement and community members.
The incident unfolded November 13 when sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of threats made on a school bus.
The juvenile later displayed a firearm during a video call with another student following an earlier altercation, authorities said.
Deputies secured a Firearm Restraining Order and confiscated a shotgun shown in the video call, along with an additional firearm and ammunition found in a home safe.
The juvenile faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and aggravated assault, with charges pending against the guardians.
Law enforcement notified Illinois State Police regarding Firearm Owner Identification Card status of adults in the home.
The sheriff’s engagement team worked with school officials throughout the investigation to ensure campus safety.
