Don’t Write “Bernie Sanders” on Your Ballot

Social media comments encouraging Wisconsin voters to cast presidential write-in votes for Bernie Sanders are misleading if they claim the votes will count. According to Michael Haas, administrator of the Wisconsin Election Commission, as of right now, Bernie Sanders is not a registered write-in candidate. That means people can write his name in, but their vote won’t count.  Write-in candidates for president and vice president must file a declaration of candidacy with the Wisconsin Elections Commission no later than 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 25. Wisconsin currently has two registered write-in candidates for president and vice president. Given the deadline, it is possible other write-in candidates could emerge.
