(Round Lake Beach, IL) Charges have been filed against a man accused of killing his three children in Round Lake Beach, then leading police on a high speed chase south of Chicago. Prosecutors say Jason Karels drowned 5-year-old Bryant, 3-year-old Cassidy, and 2-year-old Gideon Karels on Monday. The suspect’s estranged wife found the bodies that afternoon and called 911. Police then found a vehicle being driven by Karels, who led them on a high speed chase that lasted for several minutes before he was ultimately caught in the Joliet area. Officials say the 35-year-old admitted on a police body cam that he killed the children. Karels now faces three counts of first-degree murder though more charges could be added. A bond hearing in Lake County is set for this morning.
