Inmate Death Under Investigation

KENOSHA, Wis. (WLIP) — A 39-year-old Illinois man died early Sunday in custody at the Kenosha County Jail Pretrial Facility, authorities said.

A correctional officer found the inmate breathing but unresponsive in his cell around 1:40 a.m.

Medical staff arrived to find him no longer breathing, according to jail officials.

Jail staff performed CPR and called the Kenosha Fire Department for assistance.

The inmate was pronounced dead at approximately 2:20 a.m. despite life-saving efforts.

The man had been held at the facility since Oct. 12.

Officials are withholding his identity pending family notification.

Preliminary investigations indicate no foul play or use of force by correctional staff, authorities said.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation under an inter-agency agreement.
