Kenosha County Panel Rejects Migrant Resettlement Proposal, Citing Political Concerns

Kenosha, WI (WLIP)–A Kenosha County Board committee has rejected a proposal discouraging migrant resettlement and calling for action against sanctuary cities.

On Tuesday night, the Legislative Committee unanimously voted 7-0 against Supervisor Keith Gray’s resolution, citing concerns about the proposal’s vagueness and potential political motivations.

The resolution, which called for limiting refugee and immigrant relocation without proper planning, was met with opposition from all 11 residents who spoke during public comments.

Gray argued that the county needed to be prepared for potential immigration challenges, referencing nearby communities where immigrants have been left stranded.

Critics, including committee chair John Morrissey, questioned the clarity of the resolution and suggested it may be politically driven.

The committee ultimately voted to table the resolution, favoring more discussion and a clearer approach.
