KUSD Focuses On Safety & Healing After Incident

KENOSHA, Wis. (WLIP)— Kenosha Unified School District officials are reviewing safety protocols following the recent incident at Roosevelt Elementary School that has raised concerns throughout the district.

Superintendent Jeff Weiss said Thursday the district is conducting an internal evaluation of safety procedures in collaboration with local law enforcement.

Prior to the incident, administrators investigated concerns about images of airsoft guns but found no threats or violations of district policy.

Officials noted that airsoft gun ownership is legal and no weapons had been brought onto school property.

The district is encouraging students affected by the incident to seek support from school counselors.

Officials also urge families to remind children about the importance of reporting suspicious activity through the state’s Speak Up, Speak Out platform.

Changes to safety protocols that can be implemented quickly will take effect immediately, while those requiring significant resources will be presented to the Board of Education for consideration.
