KUSD Moves on With Transgender Policy
KENOSHA, WI–The Kenosha Unified School District is one step closer to having a policy that governs the treatment and rights of transgender students in the district.
At a Wednesday work session, School Board members had consensus on transgender access to the restroom, however acess to the lockeroom remains up in the air.
Under KUSD’s plan a student over 18 or their parents if they’re a minor can declare their gender. They then would be able to use the restroom of the gender with which they identify. However locker room access would be decided on a case by case basis.
Another issue at hand is overnight sleeping accommodations while on a field trip. District officials would like to give parents of other students on the trip input but it remains unclear if that’s possible.
The plan may be approved at a meeting later this month.
