Lake Co. News: Man Dies After Crash; Bicyclist Dies After Being Hit; Shooting Victim Identified

GURNEE, WI (WLIP)–A Tennessee man is dead after a two vehicle crash in Lake County Saturday.

It happened at the intersection of Stearns School and Dilleys Roads around 5:40 AM.

According to Gurnee Police, 66 year old Robert Wiedmann, the driver of a 2013 Mazda CX5, suffered fatal injuries when his vehicle was allegedly struck from behind by a 36 year old North Chicago man driving a 2017 Cadillac XTS.

A 64 year old passenger in the Mazda, also from Tennessee, was also in the vehicle.

According to the autopsy performed Monday, Wiedman died from blunt force trauma in the crash.

The investigation is on-going.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL (WLIP)–A 64 year old woman succumbed to her injuries after she was struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle.

That crash happened Sunday morning around 11:30 AM.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department reports that deputies were called to an area of unincorporated Libertyville near St Mary’s Road and Terre Drive.

When they arrived they found that the woman reportedly crossed in front of an SUV driven by a 81 year old Libertyville man who could not stop in time before striking her.

She was transported to the hospital with critical injuries where she later passed away.

An autopsy was being scheduled with the Lake County’s Coroner’s office.

ZION, IL (WLIP)–A 17 year old was shot and killed in Zion last week has been identified.

Diego Carreto was shot at a residence in the 29-hundred block of Gideon just after 8:30 PM last Thursday.

Carreto was taken to the hospital where he died in the Emergency Room.

No further details on the shooting were released.
