Lake County Officials Fight Covid-19 Spike Among Young People

LAKE COUNTY, IL (WLIP)—The Lake County Health Department reports that they’re seeing a trend of more Covid-19 cases among teenagers and young adults over the past two weeks.

While cases in the general population have remained steady the rates for people under thirty have been rising. According to a press release, the health department is working with officials from Lake Zurich High School after multiple cases were identified among participants in athletic camps-including football, baseball, and poms.

Students participating in those programs are under self quarantine for 14 days and the camps are suspended until further notice. One athlete at Vernon Hills also tested positive for Covid-19.

Lake County Health Officials say that young people are just as likely as anyone to spread the virus and encourage the use of mitigation methods such as following masking recommendations and maintaining social distancing.
