Man Arrested for Allegedly Soliciting 7-Year-Old Relative at Labor Day Party in Mundelein
Waukegan, IL (WLIP)–A man was arrested after allegedly soliciting a seven-year-old relative for a sexual act and showing her pornography at a Labor Day party in unincorporated Mundelein.
On September 2, 2024, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies received a report that Benedicto M. Aviles, 60, of Lincolnshire, had attempted to engage in inappropriate behavior with the child during the party.
According to detectives, Aviles lured the child under the guise of taking her swimming but instead showed her pornography and exposed himself.
His actions were interrupted when the child’s mother called for her after noticing she was not by the pool.
The child later told her mother what had happened, and the family immediately contacted authorities.
After several attempts to locate Aviles, sheriff’s detectives arrested him on September 10, 2024.
Aviles is facing charges of indecent solicitation of a child and attempted predatory sexual assault of a child, with the possibility of additional charges.
A detention hearing is scheduled for September 12, 2024, and Aviles remains in custody at the Lake County Jail.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg stressed the importance of protecting children, emphasizing the ongoing efforts of the Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center in providing support for young victims.
