Man Dies In Three Vehicle Crash

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill.(WLIP) — A 77-year-old Mundelein man died Friday following a three-vehicle crash at a Libertyville intersection, authorities said.

Neal Raffeld was pronounced dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center after his NAPA Auto Parts van collided with a UPS box truck at Winchester and Butterfield roads, according to police.

The crash occurred around 11:46 a.m. when Raffeld’s van, which was stopped at a traffic light, entered the intersection against a red light and was struck by the UPS truck, preliminary investigation shows.

A Chevrolet SUV was also involved in the crash.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy Monday, determining Raffeld died from blunt force injuries sustained in the crash.

The Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County is assisting the Libertyville Police Department with the ongoing investigation.
