RACINE, WI (AP & WLIP NEWS)–The investigation into the death of an off duty police officer continues as a city begins to mourn his death. Racine police say Officer John Hetland was fatally shot Monday about 9:40 p.m. when he tried to intervene in an armed robbery at Teezers bar. Multiple law enforcement agencies are searching for the gunman.

Racine Mayor Cory Mason says Officer Hetland will be terribly missed.

 

 

Mason says the flag will be at half staff until John Hetland is buried.

 

 

The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation. The FBI is offering a 20-thousand dollar reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for Officer Hetland’s death.
