(Waukegan, IL) Five Chicago teens accused in the Lake County death of their 14-year-old friend, are no longer facing murder charges.

Lake County State’s Attorney Mike Nerheim said meetings with the defense, the completion of an investigation, and the age of the suspects factored into his decision.

The five were originally charged after the 14-year-old was shot and killed by an Old Mill Creek man, as they allegedly advanced toward him with a knife. That man is not facing any charges.

Four juvenile suspects that were originally charged as adults, are now in the juvenile system, while the lone adult suspect, 18-year-old Diamond Davis, is expected to plead guilty to lesser charges next week.
