No Criminal Charges in Beach Park Ammonia Leak

(Waukegan, IL) No criminal charges will be filed in connection with an ammonia leak that sickened dozens in Beach Park.
Lake County State’s Attorney Mike Nerheim said no laws were broken by the driver of a tractor that leaked a cloud of anhydrous ammonia back on April 25th. Nerheim said in some states there may have been grounds for criminal charges, but Illinois doesn’t have those particular statutes on the books.
The incident sent over 40 people to the hospital, and has led to at least one civil lawsuit.
