Police Shoot and Kill Man in Lake County, After Sledgehammer Attacks

(Round Lake Beach, IL) A police involved shooting left one person dead in the Round Lake Beach area. Officials were called on Wednesday afternoon to the 2-thousand block of Redwood Drive where two adult women had been struck in the face and head with a sledgehammer. Both victims were removed and hospitalized with serious injuries, and police confronted a male subject who was still in possession of the weapon. A taser was deployed but was ineffective, and the subject kept moving at officers with the sledgehammer. After further attempts to get the man to stop advancing and drop the hammer failed, at least one officer opened fire, killing the subject. That person has not been identified. The matter remains under investigation by the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
