WHEATON, Ill. – The Carthage College men’s basketball team fell in close competition to Wheaton (Ill.) 71-68 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action on Monday at King Arena.

The Thunder (10-4, 4-1 CCIW) started with a small 10-8 over the Red Men (10-4, 2-3 CCIW). A hook shot from Brad Perry gave Carthage a 14-13 lead with 13:15 left in the half. With the score tied at 24, Wheaton used a 13-6 run to go into the intermission break up 37-30.

The Thunder grew the lead to ten at 56-46 over the first eight minutes of the second half before a 9-0 run for Carthage shrank the deficit to 56-52. The Red Men tied the game at 61 with a jumper from Jordon Kedrowski until Wheaton (Ill.) regained control of the game at 67-65. A Thunder layup extended the margin to 71-67 with 2:30 remaining. Carthage kept the deficit to three but the Red Men were unable to complete the comeback, Wheaton (Ill.) took the victory 71-68.

Carthage returns home facing No. 10 Elmhurst at home on Wednesday, January 15 at 7 p.m.

Brad Perry collected his second consecutive double-double finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
