KENOSHA, WI–While the city of Kenosha works to revamp how it collects and disposes of recyclables, the State Legislature in Madison also wants to make sure the state’s efforts are working.

A state audit of the state’s recycling program will begin soon. State Rep. Samantha Kerkman told WLIP that it’s been nearly two decades since the government has done an audit on the program which was implemented in 1989.

Kenosha’s recycling program has been under review since a local whistleblower group exposed the fact that many if not all of the city’s blue bag recyclables have been ending up in landfills.

Kenosha’s embarked on a 7 million dollar plan to revise the system.
