Update: Police Say Armed Suspect Who Tried To Enter School Arrested
KENOSHA, WI (WLIP)- Kenosha Unified staff confronted an armed suspect who entered an elementary school Thursday preventing a possible school shooting.
The individual-identified as a 13 year old student from another KUSD school- carried a backpack and duffel bag while entering Roosevelt Elementary School into the secure entrance area.
School staff immediately confronted the suspect, who fled the building after being questioned.
A coordinated response from multiple law enforcement agencies led to the suspect’s arrest at 2:05 p.m.
During the response, a police officer was involved in a traffic accident.
Details about the officer’s condition were not immediately available.
Reports of a second incident at Gateway Technical College were investigated and determined to be unfounded, according to police.
School officials worked to maintain normal routines for students while all KUSD schools were put on a hold for much of the school day.
Police say there is at least one video in which the suspect reportedly is seen with a rifle and possibly depicting a school shooting.
There are also indications that the suspect told others about his alleged plans in the weeks prior to the incident.
Kenosha Police continue their investigation.

The Kenosha Police Department is working with the Kenosha Unified School District after a report of a suspicious person at Roosevelt Elementary School.
Kenosha Unified Officials report that when school staff met and questioned them in the secured entryway, the suspect fled the building into the neighborhood.
According to a statement from the Kenosha Police Department, there was a large police presence at the school due to the report.
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department and Pleasant Prairie Police Department have squads at all county schools.
The suspicious person is no longer on school property, and police were actively searching for the individual as of Thursday afternoon.
The police department asked anyone who knows the person depicted in the attached photo or has recently seen this individual to contact the Kenosha Police Department at 262-656-1234.
Authorities said they will provide updates as the investigation continues.
