SOMERS, WI–Somers officials are considering a settlement with Walmart over their on-going property tax dispute.

Reports say that under the proposal the village could see a nearly $25,000 net reduction of tax income.

Walmart would receive a refund of over $16,000 for tax years 2016-2019; and Sam’s Club would be refunded over $13,000 over those same years.

The offer is the latest salvo in the battle between municipalities and large box stores who dispute their property tax bill under the so-called Dark Stores Loophole.

State Senator Bob Wirch told WLIP’s Wake Up Kenosha that loophole could cost taxpayers more money.

Lawmakers in Madison have so far failed to take up a solution to the tax loophole.
