Waukegan Man Gets Nearly a Half Century in Prison for Shooting at Police

(Waukegan, IL) A Waukegan man was sentenced this week, after his conviction earlier this year on attempted murder charges. Oscar Martinez was accused of opening fire on North Chicago Police as they responded to a shots fired call in June of 2022. No one was hurt by the gunfire, and though Martinez attempted to escape, he was unsuccessful. The 23-year-old was found guilty back in July on three counts of attempted murder of a peace officer. This week Martinez was sentenced to 49-years behind bars.
