Waukegan Woman Fatally Shot Inside Vehicle, Police Investigating

Waukegan, IL (WLIP)–A woman was fatally shot inside a vehicle in Waukegan.
Authorities identified the victim as 48-year-old Yessenia Novoa-Poveda.
On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Waukegan Police and Fire Department responded to the intersection of Melrose and Elmwood to find Novoa-Poveda shot; she was transported to Vista Medical Center East, where she was pronounced dead.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy the following day, determining the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the back.
The Waukegan Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
