WEDC leader plans to resign on Sept. 3

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The leader of Wisconsin’s economic development agency says he’ll step down next week.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation Secretary Mark Hogan will resign on Sept. 3. Hogan notified Gov. Tony Evers of his departure date in a letter this week.

Former Republican Gov. Scott Walker appointed Hogan to the position four years ago. State law prevents Evers, a Democrat, from replacing him before Sept. 1.

WEDC has drawn criticism for years for failing to track job creation at companies receiving state subsidies, although the department’s performance appears to have improved under Hogan’s leadership. He helped develop an unprecedented $3 billion state incentives package for a Foxconn Technology Group flat-screen factory in Mount Pleasant.
