Zion Murder Charges Filed

(Zion, IL) Police in Zion have announced charges against a Waukegan man, in the stabbing death of another Waukegan man. Officials were dispatched to a fight call Friday night in the 41-hundred block of Barberry Lane, where they found a 42-year-old man wounded. Authorities were able to speak to the victim, before he was transported to Vista East in Waukegan, where he was later pronounced dead. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Joseph Rollins now faces two counts of first-degree murder. He and the victim were said to have a domestic relationship. Bond has been set at 2-million-dollars.

North Chicago Man Gets Prison for Attempting to Transport Underage Girl

(Chicago, IL) A North Chicago man will spend a significant time in federal prison, for attempting to transport an underage girl to Wisconsin. A U.S. District Judge in Chicago sentenced Deronarte Norwood to 27 and a half years in prison on accusations that he tried to get the 15-year-old girl to Wisconsin to engage in prostitution. The 32-year-old was captured in Waukegan in 2016 and found guilty by a jury in 2018. A joint investigation by several departments including the FBI and the Lake County Special Investigations Group, assisted in the investigation.

Marengo Man Gets Time for Round Lake Park Attack

(Waukegan, IL) A McHenry County man is on his way to prison, for an attack that took place in Lake County. Gary Reiher pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated domestic battery. The charge stemmed from an incident last November in which Reiher was accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend in her Round Lake Park home while her child was present. The 33-year-old was able to get other charges dropped in exchange for his plea. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison.

Air Testing for Waukegan/Gurnee to Start This Week

(Waukegan, IL) Air testing around two Lake County buildings will begin this week, with 10 monitors placed around two Lake County locations. The independent tests will be looking for the cancer causing agent known as ethylene oxide, coming from the Vantage Specialty Chemicals plant in Gurnee and a Medline location in Waukegan. The independent testing was ordered after both the federal and state EPA declined to do testing of their own. Each plant will have four monitors near them, and one monitor at a location further out…and data will be collected for 30 days.
