KENOSHA, WI—The city of Kenosha is looking to revamp its recycling program with some proposals expected in Mayor John Antaramian’s new budget due out soon.

Issues with the blue bag collection system came to light thanks to a whistleblower at a recent city council meeting. Claims have been made the the blue bags are not recycled but end up in a landfill.

17th district Alderman David Bogdala told WLIP’s Wake Up Kenosha that this claim isn’t the whole truth.

The recycling company that the city uses no longer prefers the blue bags because they gum up the system.

Kenosha will eventually adopt the more common blue container model as part of a 7 million dollar garbage collection automation plan.

In the meantime, the city will continue to collect blue bags to maintain state funding based on a recycling program.
