Lake County Deputies De-escalate Two Separate Life Threatening Situations

Lake County, IL (WLIP)–The Lake County Sheriff’s Department says that they de-escalated two potentially deadly incidents.

The first happened on Tuesday when deputies were able to rescue a woman and child after an armed man in a mental health crisis had barricaded himself in a home in unincorporated Deerfield.

The man eventually left the home without further incident.

Then on Thursday deputies responded to another mental health crisis in Volo.

In that case a man was threatening suicide and asking to communicate with a fellow combat veteran.

An off duty member of the sheriff’s office was able to speak with the man by phone and convinced him to go to the hospital.

Following the incidents law enforcement was able to utilize state law to ensure neither person has access to firearms.
