MADISON, WI–Who should draw up Wisconsin’s Assembly and State Senate maps?

After at least one court challenge to the current maps had to be dropped, and a ruling by the Supreme Court in a separate case that they can’t interfere with the process; two bills have been introduced in Madison that attempts to address the subject.

Under the proposal a non or bi-partisan committee would draw legislative districts similar to what’s happens in Iowa and other states. State Senator Bob Wirch, a co-sponsor of the State Senate bill, told WLIP’s Wake Up Kenosha that the apportionment process should be fair.

Wirch says the idea has been popular.

Governor Tony Evers added a similar measure to his budget proposal but that was removed by the Republican legislature opening the way for the separate bills.
