KUSD to Consider “Worst Case” Budget Cuts

By Pete Serzant, WLIP News

KENOSHA, WI (WLIP)–Kenosha Unified is considering major budget cuts in the wake of the on-going enrollment crisis.

Among the cuts is an elementary school. KUSD administration is recommending the closure of Wilson Elementary School.

The move would reportedly save the district $1.2 million dollars of a $9.6 million dollar deficit.

Also included is $2 million  district-wide staff reduction, as well as a phase out of KUSD’s contribution to employees’ health savings accounts.

The cuts are thought to be a “worst-case” scenario if the state legislature fails to increase state aid to schools.

The school board is set to consider the cuts at tonight’s meeting.
