Teens and Victim Identified in Shooting, High-Speed Chase

(Waukegan, IL)  Five suspects have been identified after a shooting and high speed chase early Tuesday.

The incident started in Old Mill Creek with the shooting of 14-year-old Jaquan Swopes, went to Gurnee where that boy died, and ended in Chicago after a high-speed chase.

Lake County Sheriff’s officials say 18-year-old Diamond Davis, as well as 17-year-old’s Steven and Stacy Davis are siblings.

17-year-old Kendrick Cooper and 16-year-old Curtis Dawson were also taken into custody. All five are charged with first degree murder, even though Swopes wasn’t shot by any of them. The group are all being held on 1-million-dollar bonds.

The 75-year-old Old Mill Creek man who was the actual shooter is currently not facing charges…but a final decision on that is ultimately up to the Lake County State’s Attorney.
